The Music Department offers a curriculum of music study that helps students develop skills in performance, composition, evaluation, and overall musical development. Music study promotes cultural awareness and provides unique opportunities for self-expression and creativity as well as developing responsibility and leadership. The Music Department offers a variety of classes that allow students to begin or continue a strong, sequential program of instrumental and vocal music study.
Students at Jimtown have the opportunity to be involved in Beginning Choir, Woman's Choir, Show Choir, Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, Music Theory, Theater Tech, and Music Appreciation. Most of these ensembles have occasional outside of school rehearsal times as direct outgrowth of the nature of the art which is being studied. Performing ensembles include an emphasis on the importance of participation and performance, therefore; all performances are held outside of the school day.
